Artists' House Lukas
The Artists' House Lukas is a place for scholarship holders in the fields of fine arts / artistic photography, literature / literary translation and music / composition. Every last Sunday of the month is open-studio-day.
Since the reopening of the Artists' House Lukas, Künstlerhaus Lukas , on the 1. January 2006 a place for artistic work and international encounters has newly emerged. It used to be an artists' house of the Cultural Fund Foundation (Stiftung Kulturfonds).Today the local association "Künstlerhaus Ahrenshoop" is responsible, it works interdisciplinary and awards scholarships to authors, artists, composers and dancers. Thus the initial function of the house was taken up: the founder of the artists' colony Ahrenshoop, the painter Paul Müller-Kaempff, had built it in 1894 as a guesthouse with studios for his students and named it "St. Lucas" after the saint for the painters. A darkroom in the house and an etching workshop, run together with the municipality at the Beach Hall (Strandhalle), are at the residents' disposal.
